Born on December 10, 1900,
Bill grew up loving baseball.
His enthusiasm for the
game
enabled him to learn to play the
game with a certain adeptness.
He was in fact ambidextrous.
When playing the position
of first base,
he would wear the glove on his left hand
and throw right; when playing second
base he would do the opposite.
Bill played on the local teams, was given a short trial with the St. Paul
Millers and later did some coaching. He served in World War I in the Medical
Corps and during World War II he wrote hundreds of letters to the boys in
service, keeping them informed of local news.
Bill spent most of his life in Hinckley as the village constable and in his later years could be seen sitting on a bench on Main Street passing the time of day recalling the "good old times" with friends.
